Panay Island

This large, triangular island of Panay has a number of decaying forts and watchtowers. These are relics from the days of the Moro pirates. There are also some interesting Spanish churches around the area like in Iloilo where the Miag-ao Church is located. Built in 1768 with a native facade and also a unique explosion of botanical motif of reminiscent of Aztec Art. It was declared a national landmark in 1973.

There are also amazing festival in this island like the Ati-Atihan Festival held in Kalibo every January, well known world wide. So called because Kalibo natives, domestic and foreign tourists masquerading as Negritos imitate aboriginal dances around the town plaza. This affair is the biggest, noisiest and rowdiest in the country.

We've got it all on postcards! Go!
